ode to best friends

laura.jpg

We learned to tie our shoes together. We stomped and tripped on many stages during our short lived ballet careers together. We made club houses and played school and wrote letters to each other in secret code. We discovered boys and kissing and holding hands together. We learned the heartache of friendships dissolving and pain of bad breakups together. We saw the fragility of life and the grief of death together. We graduated high school together. We spent our last days living as children under our parent’s roofs together. We went off to college, separate, but learned about being on our own, of responsibility, and the lack of, together. We learned about loving and living. We’re still learning that.
My best friend Laura has been a part of every important thing in my life. She makes me laugh and cry and remember and look forward to. Her life and character are an inspiration to me.

Don't you wish Laura lived closer to home?

Oh yes, do you think we can persuade her? I actually want her to live in the guest bedroom suite (doesn't that sound convincing?)at my house.
