The Contriversial Cookie

University Shuts Down Affirmative Action Bake Sell.....

From Fox News: DALLAS — Southern Methodist University shut down a bake sale Wednesday in which cookies were offered for sale at different prices, depending on the buyer's race or gender.

A sign said white males had to pay $1 for a cookie. The price was 75 cents for white women, 50 cents for Hispanics and 25 cents for blacks.

Members of the conservative group said they meant no offense and were only trying to protest the use of race or gender as a factor in college admissions.

"Oh look Elaine, the black and white cookie. I love the black and white. Two races of flavor living side by side in harmony. It's a wonderful thing, isn't it?" – Seinfeld

heads a spinnin'

I am only taking one quick second to look away from my work and breathe. Deep breathe in....~sigh~ I am trying to lower my blood pressure as we speak. Work is seriously stressing me out. Nothing should be this important.

PS---Shannon - I am going to post the interview questions as soon as I can.

Go Wrennie Go Wrennie....

Birthday girl

Today is a wonderful day because today is the day we celebrate the birth of my sweet little niece Wrenn. It is amazing how much she has affected my life in three short years.

INTERVIEW EXTRAVEGANZA

These questions are curteousy of Shannon:
1.What do you think is the quality that most draws others to you?
I think I am pretty laid back about things. My mom told me the other day she always thought of me as being dramatic. But I truly think that with my interactions with others and my relationships, I am pretty easy going. But, after my mother said that the other day about my flair for the dramatics, I am beginning to think that maybe I see myself differently than others see me, so I don't really know the answer to that question.
2. In what ways have you changed since your marriage to Eric?
Goodness, this is hard. The most external is that I am more organized and responsible. Eric has always been these things and I think that it has rubbed off on me some. It may have something to do with me getting older as well. I think there are a lot of subtle changes that have evolved over the course of the year too. Being a part of something changes you. I no longer look out for my best interest, rather it is our best interest. I think about the future a lot more. We base our decisions on what is right for US and our future children, for example, not moving to some distant island so we can fish and swim and lay on the beach all day, but staying relatively close to our families because we know it is important and right for us. I guess this is the obvious answer that everyone would say after being married a year. But it is a big change. I am excited to answer this question again in a year, 12 years, 25 years……It is an amazing and wonderful thing- to committ yourself to another human the way marraige calls for- I am beginning to understand it more and more everyday. I have gained a new perspective on life, mortality, I don't know. Hard to explain.
3. How do you feel as a Baptist student at Belhaven College?
Well, I am so new to school that I am not quite sure how I feel about it yet. It is interesting to see all sides of everything. There are things in both religions that I really like and things in both that I am not so sure about. I think the basic themes are the same. All the stuff that really matters is the same. I know there are considerable differences, but I think that the things that the Bible was written for are believed in both religions. All the rest is basically interpretation. So it is interesting. I have definitely caught things in my readings that I have previously not seen before. (a teacher and a textbook may have something to do with this) Again, I do not know how I will answer this question in a year. We’ll see.
4. If you could become invisible, how would you use this ability?
I think I would take a lot of trips around the world. The thing is, that I could Touch someone else and they would be invisible too, that way I could take all my Favorite people on trips with me. We would hop a plane that had empty seats and stay in hotels that had vacant rooms. I would get to see the world! I could turn my invisibility on and off though, you know, for pictures and such! 5. What is your favorite memory from highschool?
When I think of highschool, I think of my cousin Laura, my friend Tashia and I
Driving around in my Mom’s jeep, blaring Cranberries and singing at the top of
Our lungs. We were so carefree and uninhibited. For a specific memory, it would Be the time we went to our rival school’s grounds and put our colors all over Their campus. We put streamers and signs up, vasoline on doorknobs and rails, Hung their school mascot, a gator, from the flag pole by its neck, just good fun. We parked our cars a mile out and ran there and back so we were so scared of Getting caught, which was why it was so fun I think. It was the “biggest, baddest” thing I have ever done (I am pretty tame!) Again, carefree and uninhibited. I think that is something you start to lose after highschool, to some degree, so those type things are my favorite things about that time.

::If you would like to participate too, here are your instructions:
1. Leave me a comment saying “interview me.”
2. I will respond by asking you five questions (not the same as you see here).
3. You will update your blog/site with the answers to the questions.
4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.

And the cycle continues, on and on and on...
I'll warn you now: it's easier said than done.::

Beddie bye

A cheesy title for an uninteresting blog entry. I am sleepy-- I have been reading the Old Testament studying for a test tonight. Heree lately, I have seemed to be able to relate every blog entry I have read or written, including comments posted, to a story in the Old Testament. You guys are just lucky I have been keeping most of them to myself and not actually writing about them. It is really tempting to though I must admit. I have been learning all these fancy themes from the OT and pretty words with real meanings and everything. My latest fascination is Cultural Mandate. Lemme know if you are interested and I will fill you in on it....complete with examples. Okay, I am overstaying my welcome. (which is really really sad considering this is MY little home I created) Sad but true. I promise something intriguingly exciting soon. (that is a dangerous promise.)

Patriots

I was wondering what you guys felt about that new Patriot Law that Congress just passed. If you have not heard about it, go here and read (its long, but I think there may be a summary somwhere on the site) I just do not know how I feel. It is a little scary to me. But on the other hand, I have to be completely honest and tell you it makes me feel a little safer. I am torn. I really am leaning towards being more scared of it than secure with it. There are certainly some freedom issues we are infringing upon.

French Fried Blog

I am wordless today. So I will only blog about this one thing. Every time I don't have anything in particular that I want to blog about, I go to google to do a random search to see if anything interesting pops up to blog about. Anyway, everytime I go to google and try to think of a word to put in my little search box, the words "french fried potatoes" always, always without fail pops in my head. But I never enter it because that is not really anything to blog about. But today, I was thinking, well maybe that pops in my head for a reason. Maybe just maybe something really really cool will list if I put it in. So I did. And as it turns out, it is really nothing to blog about.
